Pathway Center for College & Career Readiness

The vision of Talladega County Schools is to provide an engaging, rigorous curriculum empowering all students to be college and career ready. B. B. Comer Memorial has truly embraced this vision. The school's infrastructure has been updated to accommodate the school's 21st century transformation. Chromebook laptops, 70-inch TV monitors, iPads, professional learning environments, and the latest software programs are the tools for instruction. The faculty and staff are equipped with enthusiastic and exceptional professionals that actively participate in professional development for using these 21st century tools with their students. The details of our academic program are outlined throughout our school's website and brochure. The goal for our graduates at B. B. Comer Memorial High School is for every student to be fully prepared to meet the challenges of college or a career after high school.

What Does College and Career Ready Mean?

Alabama's Plan 2020 states a college and career ready school provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to enroll and succeed in credit-bearing, first-year courses at a postsecondary institution, such as a two- or four-year college, trade school, or technical school without the need for remediation.

STEM/PBL Learning

As apart of Talladega County Schools Mission, we provide STEM, real world, and Project Based Learning experiences for our students.

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education emphasizes interdisciplinary learning that integrates these core subjects through real-world applications. Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching method within STEM where students actively explore real-world challenges and problems.

In PBLs, students engage in hands-on activities to investigate and solve problems, working collaboratively to apply STEM concepts in practical contexts. This approach encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, preparing students for future careers in STEM fields.

Benefits of STEM and PBL learning include:

  1. Real-world relevance: Students apply theoretical knowledge to solve authentic problems, preparing them for future careers and everyday challenges.

  2. Engagement: PBL fosters intrinsic motivation as students take ownership of their learning through hands-on projects, increasing engagement and interest in STEM subjects.

  3. Collaboration: Students work in teams, developing communication and collaboration skills essential for success in the workplace.

  4. Critical thinking: PBL encourages analytical thinking and problem-solving skills by addressing complex, open-ended questions.

  5. Creativity: Students explore innovative solutions to problems, fostering creativity and exploration of multiple perspectives.

  6. Preparation for future careers: STEM and PBL learning aligns with the skills needed in modern workplaces, including technology proficiency, adaptability, and resilience.

We strive to empower students to become active learners, capable of applying knowledge to solve real-world challenges, thus preparing them for success in an increasingly technology-driven world.
